The title above is something that has been said to me in the past, all because of stereotypical racism. Racism is something that shouldn't be allowed but still happens and hurts many people everyday. It's terrible what people say just because of something that happened 13 years ago and was caused by a certain country from the other side of the world. Just because of a certain skin colour people attack you for something that you had absolutely nothing to do with.
Colour and terrorism fit like pieces of a puzzle to other people. "Oh you're brown go back to blowing stuff up." This is just a stereotype associated to a skin colour. Many other countries have performed acts of terrorism now as well that are not associated with the skin colour. For example the person who had the attack on Parliament Hill, which was tragic nonetheless, the man was not brown, he was white. But alas, it was an act of terrorism so again associated with people of brown skin colour.
Nobody asked for terrorists to exist but they do. The medias such as news and movies enforce this stereotype tenfold. People who weren't even born in any of those countries (like me) still get made fun of no matter how much logic is used. Just because you're brown automatically connects you to being a terrorist.
We need more people like the ventriloquist Jeff Dunham. He has one act called Achmed the Dead Terrorist. He embraces the stereotypes and just makes fun of how stupid they are. The story he made for Achmed is that he messed up the timer for a bomb in a gas station and he died in the explosion making him a suicide bomber. But the way he makes him talk is just taking all the stereotypes while acknowledging how stupid they seem and make jokes out of them. He's not racist, he doesn't call brown people terrorists. He knows what stereotypes exist and make them seem stupid. He makes a joke about seeing a person and then killing them.
What people don't understand is how much it hurts the people they make fun of. Getting made fun of multiple times a day, EVERY day. It's not nice. No matter what you try to do or say that proves your not a terrorist, they still find other racial stereotypes and connect them to you. "Where were you born", "Canada", "No you weren't", "Yes I was, I have a Canadian birth certificate and passport", "No you just have a fake birth certificate". That's what people will say if you try to defend yourself. People need to think before they say things like that. They need to put themselves in the other persons shoes and see how they would feel if they were constantly being harassed by someone just because of your skin colour.
